Die Ruiter receives special visit

While each emergency service group was asked to speak to the learners about what they do, some even went the extra mile with exciting demonstrations and simulations.

On Monday, October 31 Laerskool Die Ruiter Primary received a special visit from various local emergency services.

According to Die Ruiter’s Bronwyn Matthews the event served to educate and inform their learners of the different emergency services of South Africa and the roles they play in society.

“We wanted to educate these learners and encourage them to not be afraid of our emergency services. It’s important for them to know that these services can be trusted and that they are here to help,” she said.

Help24 Secure performed a thrilling hijacking simulation with the traffic police and also demonstrated how their K9 unit dogs are trained to jump through a vehicle window, attack the culprit and sniff out narcotics.

The learners were then presented with a visual presentation of the process that is followed when someone is injured on the side of the road. Emergency Control SA proceeded to demonstrate how they would extinguish a fire with the fire truck hose. They also taught the learners how to put out a fire and to protect themselves during such an emergency.

Other emergency services included Roodepoort Police, Gauteng Traffic Police, Gauteng Emergency Medical Services, Netcare 911, Chaplain Emergency Services and TOP Dogs.

“The learners are so grateful and really enjoyed the special visit. With this we would like to thank each and every stakeholder. I want to formally thank Colonel Paulus van Eeden who assisted me from the word ‘go’ to get this day organised,” Matthews said.

“And then also Captain Yorke and Sergeant Mbuli for all their assistance in making this day such a success. Then Help24 Secure that lost one of their employees on Sunday afternoon but still came through for these learners and put so much effort into their presentation given the sad circumstances. Thank you!”
