Hoërskool Roodepoort boasts with new consumer class

These two managers promised the principal the best looking consumer class in the West Rand and according to Swanzen it's exactly what was delivered.

With hard work and dedication, anything is possible. In less than three months a single vision was brought into reality when one of Hoërskool Roodepoort’s consumer classes was completely transformed into a mind-blowing space aimed at optimising the learners’ experience in the subject.

On Thursday, October 27 most stakeholders involved gathered at the school to witness the official opening of the brand new space. After welcoming the School Principal Marina van der Merwe, School Governing Body Chairperson René Louw and School Treasurer Luke Waspe, Hoërskool Roodepoort’s Bernie Swanzen proceeded to acknowledge the key role players who were instrumental in the project.

“About three months ago the school was facing a real dilemma. We had to try and salvage this space we are in now. These two gentleman literally ‘took the tide at the flood’ and set sail with an extremely optimistic plan,” Bernie said at the opening.

“This would have been around the same time most of you (project stakeholders) first got to do business with these two very opposite personalities. Fanie – our strong, quite driving force that would steam through any amount of work to get the job done – and Piet – probably the most persistent, thorough, straight shooting, strategist you’ve ever had as a customer.”

He continued to thank the duo for their hard work and perseverance. However, the project wouldn’t have been possible without the generous, highly professional, ethical and dedicated suppliers. “Thank you for allowing us to stretch our account limits, your patience in waiting for payments, the last minute deliveries, meeting our ridiculous deadlines (even over weekends), the discounts and thank you for your patience,” he said.

“There really isn’t much we can do as a public school to repay you for your contributions towards this success. What we can do though is to recognise you and your businesses for what you’ve helped us accomplish. Thank you!”

Bernie, Piet, Fanie and Marina subsequently proceeded to hand out certificates of thanks to each business present on the day.

Bernie concluded by saying, “I trust the new class will encourage many learners to produce top quality meals, good grades and inspire them to learn”.
