Cuppa for Cansa a huge success

On the day a total of 100 women attended the event and listened to guest speaker, Carina Crayton, who is a breast cancer survivor herself.

On Satuday, 8 October the Lions Club of Wilro Park hosted their 12th annual Cuppa for Cansa at their Wilro Park clubhouse.

This year’s Cuppa for Cansa event was proudly convened by Lion Niqula Kruger and her committee from the club. On the day each guest was welcomed to one of 12 beautifully decorated tables which was hosted by the members of the club.

“We host the special event every year in October. Not only is October Breast Cancer Awareness month, but October 10 is also Lions World Service Day. That’s why it holds so much significance for us,” Past President Sandy van Heerden said.

The cause also lies close to the club’s heart as they honour two of their own.

“We host it in memory of two special ladies – they were both members and past presidents of our club. Marlene Lepley and Rajes Naidoo both had cancer and passed away. Although we honour them through our Cuppa for Cansa events, we also celebrate all survivors,” Sandy explained.

On the day a total of 100 women attended the event and listened to guest speaker, Carina Crayton, who is a breast cancer survivor herself. She is also an accomplished speaker, eager to gracefully share her story with the women in attendance.

The Lions were also excited to welcome the lovely Ester Pretorius from Cansa West Rand to which the raised funds will be handed over to.

“We are so grateful to all the gorgeous ladies who support us each year and make us realise that there are lots of people who really care and want to help make a difference,” Niqula said.

“We would also like to thank all our members who so generously give of their time and talents to bake, decorate and host our guests! A huge vote of thanks also goes to each one who donated fabulous prizes throughout the afternoon,” Niqula concluded.
