Following their annual Partners Challenge, the gym was transformed into a temporary salon to raise funds for Reach for Recovery, a national breast cancer support initiative. Friends and family either shaved or sprayed their heads while enjoying a host of sweet treats and baked goods. The month-long goal has been to raise R50 000 and with a week to go of the pink month, the kitty sits at just over R23 000.

Leilani Kuter added her Midas touch to the fundraising efforts and with her customary smile thanked everyone for their willingness to take the chop.

“I would like to thank Clearwater Mall for their donation. I think it was a huge success. It’s great to see how people come together and share their stories. Unfortunately we can’t cure breast cancer but we can show love and commitment to be there. Let’s learn to be more kind and always remember most of us are dealing with something, to some, they deal with the loss of a loved one,” said Leilani.

Reach for Recovery specialize in manufacturing prosthetic breast to restore the confidence of breast cancer survivors post mastectomy. The organisation also offer patient and volunteer support services and all funds raised by through the Curves fundraising project will go to supporting Reach for Recovery. Leilani and Curves Strubens Valley owner, Nickey Seger, are still taking donations at backabuddy.co.za/champion/project/going-bald-by-choice-in-support-of-breast as they creep toward the magic R50 000 number.
