Executive Director of UN Habitat visits Jerusalema and Fleurhof

Jerusalema and Fleurhof are one of the communities that will benefit from the Global Action Plan Framework which will put forward solutions to informal settlements and slums.

On Sunday, October 16, residents of the Rugby Club informal settlement, affectionately known as Jerusalema and the residents of Fleurhof had a visit from the Executive Director of United Nation Habitat Maimunah Mohd Sharif accompanied by the Minister of Human Settlements Mmamoloko Kubayi.

Kubayi’s department hosted her UN Habitat guest for an official visit to South Africa from October 12 to October 18.

The visit formed part of the launch of the Global Action Plan on Informal Settlements and Slums.

Jerusalema and Fleurhof are one of the communities that will benefit from the Global Action Plan Framework which will put forward solutions to informal settlements and slums.

In the presence of Ward 114 Councillor, Mboneni Tabane, the residents in Jerusalema were engaged on the challenges they are facing and how they can be improved.

The next stop was at the Fleurhof Integrated Residential Development Project that is envisaged to create more than 12 000 housing opportunities on completion.

Deputy Mayor of eThekwini Metro Philani Mavundla joined by the City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor Dada Morero told the Record that it is important for them to participate in the day’s programs.

According to the Department Human Settlements, this is part of the Global Action Plan Framework on Informal Settlements and slums, it is aimed at accelerating sustainable development goals and the new urban agenda.

They are also using opportunity to search for solutions in response to the challenges of informal settlements and slums.

The Global Action Plan Framework will serve as an umbrella action plan against which annual targets, implementation arrangements, and activities are undertaken.
