Local power couple share their insight into a happy marriage

We now live in a society where everything must be instantaneous because it is a constantly changing construct primarily driven by today’s youth. Fast food, instant internet access and online shopping have all contributed to the idea that life happens in the blink of an eye. Instant gratification has permeated interpersonal connections.

Couples often break up and start over with someone else in the hopes of establishing an instant, effortless connection because they struggle to stay together, work through their differences, and grow together.

Speaking with prominent community members Johnny and Corinda Loots, it is evident that perseverance really does produce the best results.

The couple is celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary this year. During a karaoke night at a local neighbourhood pub 21 years ago, Johnny and Corinda got to know one another. While some might say it was love at first sight, the couple knew it takes some work, time, and effort to have a successful relationship.

When the couple met, Corinda was celebrating her private security company’s ninth year of business. Her company grew along with their relationship.

One of the most important pieces of advice the couple gave the youth today was not to give up when things get difficult; instead, work through it with your partner. Remember, you’re up against the world, not each other.
Relationships are give-and-take situations in which two people collaborate to build each other up. Couples should not allow outside forces to dictate how they feel or what they should do, according to the couple.

“We are a united front; I am not afraid to approach Corinda for advice, and vice versa. We respect one another and are aware of the limits of our knowledge,” Johnny elaborated. You should not be intimidated by your partner, especially if you run a business together. Before meeting Corinda, Johnny worked in the automotive industry. They have grown their private security company over the years, allowing Corinda to expand on one of her passions, the K9 unit and academy. “I am very fortunate to have Johnny by my side; we communicate well, and having someone with the same dedication to the business has allowed me to focus on our training academy for professional working dogs,” Corinda explained.

“Your life is like riding on a train; you have a ticket that will take you to your destination. Will you get off early? Will you sit with the wrong crowd? These are the factors that will shape your life’s journey. Your partner is the person who will hold your hand and walk the distance with you, who will assist you to arrive safely at your destination, and you will do the same for him or her,” explained Corinda.
