Leilani Kuter and Curves Strubens Valley uniting to raise money for breast cancer survivors

The Yellow for Survivors champion is setting her sights on a new cause

With a past laid to rest, now a fight for the future of other begins.

Sacrificing her flowing locks, Leilani Kuter is going #baldbychoice. Supported by Nickey Seeger and Curves Strubens Valley, the pair are setting themselves and their community a goal to bring self-esteem back to survivors of breast cancer. Aiming to raise R50 000, every cent will go to breast cancer support organisation, Reach for Recovery.

Curves Strubens Valley embark on a charity blitz every year and this year they will be championing Reach for Recovery. One of the national organisation’s flagship projects is breast prosthetics for those to whom breast conservation or breast reconstruction post-mastectomy was not possible. Breast prosthetics can cost between R3 000 and R9 000 but Reach for Recovery is able to lower that to roughly R1 000 including a specially fitted bra.

The fundraiser will be running throughout October but the showpiece event will be the Partners Challenge at Curves Strubens Valley on October 22. There partners of the ladies-only gym will have a chance to tackle the gruelling circuit and either after or before, can shave, cut, colour or spray their hair for a good cause. Already in the spirit of things, Leilani sculpted herself a rockstar mohawk on October 6 and Nickey will be cutting piece by piece as the big day edges closer.

The shaving of their heads is to show solidarity with breast cancer sufferers and those coming to terms with their mastectomy. The R50 000 goal will allow them to assist 5 000 survivors and for those unable to alter their hairstyles, there will be muffins, cupcakes and other baked goods to contribute towards. Additionally, Leilani has set up a BackaBuddy campaign to amplify their work so visit https://www.backabuddy.co.za/champion/project/going-bald-by-choice-in-support-of-breast to help their cause.
