Attempted hijacking in Jan van Rooyen Street

Four males driving a red/ maroon Polo attempted to hijack a vehicle in Jan van Rooyen Street.

Last night, September 7, a woman driving a dark-coloured Ford Figo was on her way to Simfonie AFM Witpoortjie when four males driving a red/ maroon Polo attempted to hijack the vehicle in Jan van Rooyen Street.

It is believed the incident occurred not too long after 20:00.

According to Western Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch’s (WSRNW) Frik van Zyl the woman’s vehicle ran out of fuel and she free-wheeled to the church.

The four men confronted the powerless victim and upon realising they won’t be able to drive off with the vehicle due to the lack of fuel they robbed her of her possessions and hit her on the back of her head. Luckily she only sustained a minor injury.

The WSRNW was first on scene and the incident was handed over to local police upon their arrival.
