Water pressure woes in Florida Park

Residents in Van Der Stel and Somerset streets say they have no water pressure during the day.

Houses along Van Der Stel and Somerset streets in Florida Park have been struggling with low water pressure for months on end.

According to residents, they are fed up.

“We’ve been trying for months to engage with Johannesburg Water (JW) and we have the reference numbers to show for it,” says resident, Christa Mans.

“Our pleas have fallen on deaf ears and we still have nearly no water pressure during the day. She adds that water pressure disappears completely from just before 08:00 every day.”

Another resident, Gary Berndt, says water pressure generally starts to return to near-normal levels only after 20:00, but if you don’t shower before 08:00, you’ll have to wait the whole day for another chance.

Residents say they have been sent from pillar to post, and have even managed to schedule a meeting between themselves and operational staff at JW to get to the bottom of the problem.

“Unfortunately, they [JW] cancelled the meeting at the last minute, and we haven’t heard anything from them since,” adds Berndt.

He adds that a team from JW did visit one of the houses in the street.

“They spoke to the gardener for a few minutes and left again without checking anything.”

The Roodepoort Record has approached JW spokesperson Nolwazi Dhlamini for comment, which will be added once received.
