Operation Restore: City’s roads restored

Johannesburg Road Agency leads Operation Restored in Ward 84.

The Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) led Operation Restore (also known as Operasie Herstel, Operation Lungisa and Operation Lokisa) in Ward 84 on September 23 which was aimed at enhancing and fixing road infrastructure.

The operation saw multiple stakeholders like Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, Johannesburg Water, Pikitup, Citizen Relationship and Urban Management’s field workers working together to address several road issues and other related defects in the area.

The teams focused on Exner Street by putting up fresh road markings to enhance visibility and safety. They then went to Lambert Street where they patched potholes. In Edward Street, they unlocked curb inlets (stormwater drains) to prevent flooding and in Bridal Veil Crescent in Little Falls, they resurfaced a 3km lane.

This initiative was launched in the 2022 financial year and is currently spearheaded by the MMC for Transport, Clr Kenny Kunene alongside JRA CEO Zweli Nyathi.

During the operation, Nyathi thanked the community of Ward 84 for being patient and stated that they are still in the process of working on other problems like sinkholes in Region C.

“JRA will continue having these programs because we need better services for our cities and we don’t have to wait for the residents to complain, it is our mandate,” said Nyathi.
