Water issues unresolved

An illegal water connection has caused water issues for residents on Pierre Road.

For months, residents on Pierre Road in Honeydew have been struggling with low water pressure and leakages due to an illegal water connection. Despite numerous calls logged to Johannesburg Water (JW), the issue remains unresolved.

The illegal connection, which flows behind an abandoned piece of land, is believed to be supplying water to an alleged car wash in Zandspruit.

The Roodepoort Northsider visited the site on August 28 where Ali Pucci showed where the illegal connection is.

“This has been ongoing for months, with no response from JW. It’s frustrating to see that our water is being diverted illegally while we are left to deal with the consequences of low water pressure and sometimes no water at all,” Pucci said.

Unfortunately, the abandoned land where the pipe connected to the illegal connection is located is also a hotspot for criminal activity, with stolen cables hidden. The lack of response from JW has left residents feeling neglected and ignored.

As the situation continues to deteriorate, residents, including the Honeydew Residents Association (HRA), are calling for urgent action to address the issue and restore their water supply.

“The HRA has been grappling with the consequence of the illegal water connection, which has plagued our community with persistent struggles. The constant leakage not only damages our roads but also wastes precious water and disrupts the water pressure for surrounding residents. Given that our area is predominantly comprised of plots, access to water is crucial for both human and animal needs.

“JW has been slow with their response, requiring multiple calls and reference numbers to be logged. We hope that we could create stronger collaborations with these entities to swiftly address such challenges and find timely solutions,” said Minda Kruger, deputy chairperson for HRA.

The Northsider sent questions regarding the connection to JW for comment, but by the time of going to print none has been forthcoming.
