Residents brace for water outage

Rand Water Maintenance: Joburg areas continues to experience water supply disruptions.

Rand Water started with their scheduled extensive maintenance project on their infrastructure set to run until July 29.

According to Rand Water, this will impact some of its customers’ systems, including Johannesburg Water (JW) and other municipalities and industries. This kind of preventative maintenance is imperative to make Rand Water’s systems more efficient and reliable for their customers.

“This proactive infrastructure maintenance is important to preserve the quality and integrity of the infrastructure, reduce maintenance costs in the long term and increase the life span of water infrastructure and assets,” Rand Water’s statement on its website read.

JW promised to provide stationary tankers in critical areas like hospitals, clinics, municipal offices, schools and police stations. There will also be tankers across the number of suburbs that will be affected. JW also promised to co-ordinate alternative water optimally and safely.

JW will make arrangements for alternative water supply at strategic areas such as hospitals, clinics, schools, municipal offices, police stations and shopping centres. However, residents are encouraged to store water in preparation for the maintenance.

Both entities undertook to place stationary water tanks for Ward 97 residents in these designated spots:

• Ruimsig Spar Shopping Center
• Doreen Road and Malcolm Street
• Kwena Square
• Johan Road and Sterretjie Street
• Blueberry Square
• Taylor and Paul Kruger Road
• Radiokop Pick n Pay
• Christiaan de Wet Road

Recovery is expected to take between five and 14 days after the supply has been fully restored. Areas supplied through direct supply points from Rand Water can lead to quicker recovery.
