Eikenhof Substation: Power supply restored

City Power apologise for the inconvenience caused and is investigating the situation.

Residents were left with low water pressure, some even without water on Tuesday, March 5 after one of the isolators at the Eikenhof Substation experienced a ‘flashover’ on Monday evening, March 4.

City Power released a statement at about 23:10 on Tuesday which stated they had completed the repairs at the substation and 100% of the power supply to Rand Water Board has been restored.

“Rand Water was informed at 23:00 to take the full load to pump water to its customers. By early afternoon, Rand Water was pumping at 50% capacity after our teams restored the first feeder board,” said City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena.

He added the substation experienced a total loss of supply following the flashover incident on one of the feeder boards.

“The flashover happened as the teams were busy with the normalisation of the infrastructure following planned maintenance between Orlando and Eikenhof substations over the weekend.”

According to Mangena, the cause is still being investigated and they apologise for the inconvenience caused.

“We thank the team of dedicated technicians from City Power who worked hard throughout the day and night since the incident was reported, and without the help of contractors, managed to conduct all the tests and execute the repairs until power was eventually restored.”
