City urges residents to update contact details

The City of Johannesburg has called on residents to update their contact details with the entity.

The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) has called on municipal account holders to update their contact details with their entity to receive accurate information relating to their properties and municipal accounts.

According to the director of Customer Communications at Group Finance Kgamanyane Maphologela, many residents who own properties and have municipal accounts with the CoJ are not updating their contact details.

“New and old residents who hold municipal accounts are not reachable, as many do not update their contact details. This has led to the CoJ struggling to reach them with essential information relating to their properties and services,” says Maphologela.

Between July and November 2023, the city conducted a mini survey and it revealed that about 57% of all account holders did not communicate their updated contact details with the City. Only 43% of those surveyed had listed their email addresses as contact details.

He says the city has launched an email initiative called verification@joburg.org.za to get municipal account holders to verify and update their contact details. The city will send emails from this address urging residents to update their details.

“It is crucial for us to have accurate account holders’ contact details for prompt responses to addresses, and to resolve their municipal services queries, communicate important updates, policy changes, and service announcements promptly and ensure a high level of service satisfaction,” he added.

He encourages municipal account holders to update their details at verification@joburg.org.za, via the Call Centre on 0860 562 874, or at any of the city’s walk-in Customer Service Centres.
