On Thursday, July 28 Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) led an illegal land invasion operation at the Princess informal settlement.

According to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, illegal land invasion remains a serious scourge in the City of Johannesburg where people illegally occupy pieces of land without approval from the legal owners.

Approximately 56 unoccupied and half-built galvanised steel structures (shacks) were demolished and removed.

This was followed by the disconnection and removal of illegal electricity and water connections in the area.

“We encourage members of the public who witness or have any information regarding illegal land invasions to call the Anti-Land Invasion Hotline 080 012 0555,” said Fihla.
