Firearm discovered during police raid

The police are determined to protect their community and serve with dignity and pride.

The police, together with Crime Prevention Wardens and City Power workers, conducted a meticulously planned stop and search raid on July 31 which led to the discovery of a firearm.

According to the Florida Police Station Commander, Colonel Amos Tsotetsi, the firearm is alleged to have been used for street robberies.

“We conduct operations every day and we call it ‘Beke le Beke’ and these searches are intelligence-driven,” Tsotetsi remarks.

The raid was part of a larger initiative by the police to curb the rise of crime in the region. Acting on intelligence gathered information, officers set up strategic checkpoints on the roads, and crime hotspots and conducted thorough searches of suspicious vehicles, street vendors, and general members of the public on the roads.

Tsotetsi further elaborates that the specific locations for the raid are chosen according to Crime Pattern Analysis and Crime Trends Analysis and that the operations are continuing in Florida to reduce crime as it is the number one priority of the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni.

The Roodepoort Record joined the police during the raid where no arrests were made.

“We are working together with the community by utilising Community Orientated Strategy,” Colonel Tsotetsi said in conclusion.
