Police recover body of male at Florida Lake

The police's Water Policing and Diving members recovered two male bodies – one at Florida Lake and one in Orlando East.

The police’s Water Policing and Diving members have recovered two male bodies from Florida Lake and Orlando East.

According to communications officer Raymond Sambo, they were called on Saturday, June 1 about two drowning incidents.

The members first responded to the scene at Orlando East, Nicholas Road next to the Soweto Towers, where a male victim was recovered from the marshland. The age of the deceased is between the age of 40 and 45 and foul-play is suspected and investigation continues.

They proceeded to the second scene at Florida Lake and, with the assistance of emergency services (EMS), they retrieved the body of a male from the lake. The age of the deceased is between 30 and 35 years and no foul play is suspected. According to Sambo, in this particular incident, it is suspected that this person committed suicide.

“The body was taken to the government mortuary in Roodepoort and anyone who wishes to identify the body can go there,” he confirmed.

Inquest dockets were opened by Orlando and Florida police for further investigations. Individuals with information regarding the incidents are encouraged to contact the relevant police stations or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
