80-year-old resident assaulted at local business

Due to a disagreement about loud music, one resident is left with bruises on her arm.

An elderly resident’s harrowing ordeal with a customer at a nearby carwash has left her bruised and shaken. Kittie Meissner (80) wanted to put a stop to the loud music blaring from the business premises but instead walked away with bruises up and down her left arm.

Meissner claimed that she had been struggling with the loud music coming from a neighbouring carwash for a long time and had repeatedly requested that it be turned down, but instead, she was accused of racism. She’d finally had enough.

She explained that on February 3, she took a small hammer and walked across the street. She then banged against the gate to grab the people’s attention. A customer, sitting at one of the tables drinking what appeared to Meissner as alcohol, started yelling insults at her. She noted all this happened while there were children around. She explained the customer then proceeded to try and grab the hammer out of her hands through the gate, she grabbed ahold of the hammer on the other end, holding it with both hands and he subsequently banged her arm against the rails trying to get the hammer. She noted he eventually did grab hold of the hammer and stumbled backwards. She added she only later realised how the blood from her arm was dripping on the hammer.

Meissner stated, “The whole thing makes me feel sick. I don’t want to fight. I have always tried to help the people whose business it is.”

She explained she had loaned them money, allowed them to store things in her garage, and even gave them a fridge when they needed one. She even took a person to the clinic for medical attention.

The Roodepoort Record approached the business owner for comment, however, none was forthcoming regarding the incident, as soon as comment is received an update will be given.
