Three arrested in connection with robbery

JMPD's TRU apprehended three occupants of a Toyota Etios after giving chase on Gordon Road.

JMPD’s Tactical Response Unit (TRU) arrested three men in connection with a robbery in Florida.

In a media statement, Superintendent Xolani Fihla, spokesperson for JMPD stated the TRU received a complaint of a silver Toyota Etios with four occupants being chased by security at Westgate Shopping Centre. The security officers however lost track of the vehicle along Ontdekkers Road.

JMPD TRU officers then spotted a vehicle matching the description along Gordon Road in Florida while on patrol, stated Fihla. He noted the officers activated their blue lights and the siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle however made a U-turn facing the oncoming traffic after which the officers gave chase and the vehicle collided with the kerb.

Fihla continued three men were apprehended and one fled on foot. He added while the officers were busy on the scene, they were approached by two complainants who identified the men as those who robbed them, allegedly with a firearm.

He added further investigation by the officers revealed the vehicle had false number plates.

“The trio was arrested and detained at Florida police where they were charged for robbery and fraud,” concluded Fihla.
