Attempted murder suspect arrested in Discovery

Police confirmed the arrest of a middle-aged suspect following an attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Police confirmed the arrest of a suspect for attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms on the morning of January 21 and cases have been opened.

Captain Jeff Phora, Johannesburg District Police spokesperson stated the suspect, aged between 50 and 55, was arrested at his place of residence in Discovery around 7:00.

Phora continued, “Preliminary police investigation states that the man allegedly fired several shots towards the victim with a rifle, however, no one was injured during the incident.”

He further confirmed that a third firearm, a pistol, was confiscated from the suspect’s residence following his arrest.

“The suspect will be appearing in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court soon on both the above-indicated charges,” concluded Phora.
