Kleine Constantia stands out as a monument to the area’s founders and the potential that still exists. Once part of the old Weltevreden farm, the main house was built in 1951 to remind the then-owners of Groot Constantia in the Cape. After laying dormant for several decades, Dr Jaco Strobos breathed new life into the establishment just before the turn of the millennium.

Now a thriving guest house that promotes elegant sophistication, Dr Strobos has added several additional buildings including a wine cellar, dining hall and an array of living quarters. Plant life hand-picked by Dr Strobos adorns the property as well as the park across the street which was once the front lawn of the gabled home. Maintaining the heritage of the old ox-wagon wheel-lined driveway, the original gate erected on the property stands proudly at the entrance nearest the dining area.

Dr Strobos, an orthopaedic surgeon by profession, has gifted hands and when not moulding new shoulders he is creating new wonders to complement the ever-evolving building. Throughout the property, his touch can be felt as all the wood finishings in the extensions, the wine cellar and auxiliary structures were crafted by the surgeon. Always with an eye on the future, Kleine Constantia is fully solar powered allowing guests to forget any electricity-related inconveniences.

Originally purchased to be his private residence, Dr Strobos began converting the property into a guest house in 2008. Now run by his wife Marisa, the six-room establishment is an inviting reminder of the suburb’s origins that blends modern amenities with a homely farmhouse feel. Now an upmarket boutique function venue, Kleine Constantia also hosts regular food and beverage evenings amplified by Marisa’s charismatic charm.

Having just retained their five-star grading by South African Tourism, Kleine Constantia is inviting parties of less than 50 to experience the graceful refinement of hosting their wedding, conference or social event at the easily accessible venue.

“We love sharing those special moments with our guests. It is an honour to be able to cater for each individual need to create those lasting memories,” said Marisa.

The finesse of Kleine Constantia is not reserved for guests only as the venue is open to the public for breakfast and lunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Open from 9:00 to 14:00 on both days, guests can enjoy a menu brimming with homemade ingredients that leaves more than the stomach nourished. As well as the food, Kleine Constantia has a wine list any sommelier would be proud of.

Kleine Constantia is more than a guest house and events venue, but is a driver of community engagement through the hosting of local business networking chapters and creating a setting where one connects with all walks of life.

The embodiment of a welcoming environment with care and thoughtfulness, Marisa observes, ‘Here, you arrive as a guest but leave as a friend’.
