Total knee replacement surgery is a very common and effective treatment for patients suffering from knee arthritis however, the success of an individual’s knee replacement surgery is closely linked to the fit and function of the new knee implant.
In April 2022, Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital introduced a groundbreaking robotic surgical assistant called the Robotic Surgical Assistant (ROSA) Knee System to help support surgeons perform precise and personalised knee replacements. The ROSA Knee System was designed by surgeons for surgeons, bringing together advanced technologies to collect and analyse data before and during surgery to assist in the planning and placement of a patient’s knee replacement.
Since its inception at Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital in April 2022, robotic-assisted knee surgery has been a huge success. The robotic system has aided in successful procedures assisting our patients with reduced pain, lower usage of pain relief medication, fewer physiotherapy sessions and overall improved knee function following surgery. The surgery has also enabled our patient’s shorter hospital stays and lower rates of hospital readmission compared to traditional surgical techniques.
