The Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw) organisation received a handsome donation from Saints Animal Charity recently.

Michelle Weedman from Claw stated Saints was opened 11 years ago in Northriding. They have a shop where people can donate goods they no longer use or need, which will then be auctioned off and the proceeds will go to the chosen beneficiaries, whether it be Claw or one of the other animal rescue centres they support.

This month, with it being Saints’ 11th birthday they doubled the proceeds intended for Claw.

Weedman explained when a person donates goods to Claw they will use the things that are best suited for their community, but the other goods, such as fancy dresses or household contents will be taken to Saints to be sold and the proceeds will go to Claw. She added aside from the shop, they also have online pages where people can bid on particular items. She stated in other cases people want to come visit Claw and they would leave their donations there, which Claw will then arrange to be delivered to the shop.

The available items at Saints range from clothing to books and even wedding dresses and the person donating can choose the beneficiary they want the proceeds to go to.

She added this initiative is really helpful for Claw as the ‘financial stream is vital’. They appreciate it when people drop off bags of food for example as they wouldn’t then need to use funds to buy it, but they still need money at the end of the day to keep the clinic going, as well as pay for medicine, fuel and vehicle insurance.

“That’s what is great about Saints. They do incredible work. They are really supporting beneficiaries or animal welfare in that regard, and it’s regular, that’s the nice thing about it.” concluded Weedman.
