Western Gauteng 8-ball Pool and Snooker Federation announce their teams for the national championships

Western Gauteng sending two senior teams and one junior team to championships to be held in Saldanha Bay.

The chalk has faded and the final black ball has been sunk in the pursuit of a seat at nationals.

The Western Gauteng 8-ball Pool and Snooker Federation has announced their teams to take on the nation’s best at the South African Championships in September. Western Gauteng will be sending two senior teams and one junior team to go cue ball to cue ball with other districts from across the country. Trials for the senior team were held on June 10 at Mac Merves in Krugersdorp while the junior team battled at Ballbreakers in Devon Valley on June 17.

The 10 senior team representatives, five per team, will be Nickie Erasmus, Devon Haasbroek, Ray’yan Gard, Christo Venter, Gideon Jooste, Drisden Crook, Keanan den Tandt, Christiaan Janse Van Rensburg and Shaamiel Ishmail. Three reserves were selected, with Russel Pitcher, Steyn Pienaar and Tyler Short making the cut.

Teams are made up of players from either gender with the possibility existing to play for both senior and junior teams. Quiwine Puchert and Aldric Human will be joined by Devon and Ray’yan while Zoe van Vuuren adds to her selection for the women’s teams that were successful in Saldanha Bay in June. Ahbay Daya, Aliyah Alexander, Armand Barnard and Cameron Koopman will be on standby as reserves.

The federation wishes their teams the best of luck in Saldanha Bay in September.
