Sables bowls host successful 2023 Junior Gauteng Open

Florida North, Discovery and Krugersdorp are the three venues chosen to host the competition.

The greens across the West Rand have long proven to be fit for champions.

The Sables district was given the honour of hosting the Perfect Delivery 2023 Junior Gauteng Open on June 24 and 25. The three age groups of the competition were split among three separate venues. Florida North Bowls Club hosted the U18 section and Discovery Bowls Club welcomed the U25s, with Krugersdorp Bowling Club hosting the U15 players as well as the grand finals on the second day of end-to-end action.

The singles competition had players face off in several preliminary matches to qualify for the finals at Krugersdorp. As the weekend drew to a close, Discovery would have eyes fixed on the finals of the U15 and U18 sections. Charné van Staden secured a gold medal in the U15 section with a win against Tanya Naude from Sasolburg while Tiago Pereira matched that in the U18 section with a win against Xavian Kruger from Randburg.

Despite multiple entrants and even a Protea in the division, it was lawn bowlers from Wingate Park and Bryanston who made the U25 finals. In a tight battle, Alwyn Martignone from Wingate Park defeated Lethabo Mathibela from Bryanston 21–17 to earn the gold medal.
