Clearwater Mall to deny entry to unaccompanied minors and teenagers this Easter weekend

Parents are warned not to send their children unaccompanied to Clearwater Mall this Easter weekend.

The mall is warning of potential disruptions owing to a social media craze among teenagers called ‘Luh Twizzy’. Said to be inspired by American entertainment figures, Luh Twizzy involves large groups of teenagers dressed predominantly in black clothing storming malls and creating general mayhem. Recent examples occurred at Midrand’s Mall of Africa several weeks ago as well as Cape Town’s Canal Walk last week.

“Given the potential disruption, we will be putting in place additional measures to safeguard our shoppers and tenants. Some of these measures include heightened security and police presence at our centre.

As an additional precaution to ensure the safety of our people and the centre, no unaccompanied minors will be allowed to enter our centre. So, we urge all parents and guardians to accompany their minors and teenagers when visiting Clearwater Mall,” the mall’s management stated on their Facebook page.

The heightened awareness is not unique to Clearwater Mall and the move is aimed at ensuring the safety and security of shoppers and tenants.

Public order police, private security companies and Honeydew Community Police Forum have been present at the mall and will continue to monitor the situation.
