“I was there and talked about Social Crime Prevention, the 5 pillars of crime, partnership in policing, and community involvement. Most importantly I assured them as elders/ senior citizens that they are not supposed to stand in a queue at the police station. We must treat them in terms of Batho Pele principles with courtesy. They fall under the category of vulnerable people therefore at the Florida Station, we have a gender-based violence desk and Victim Empowerment Centre. The partnership between the Department of Social Development and Law Enforcement is important. A social worker is available to assist the victims at the station,” stated Colonel Tsotetsi.

Phumsile Masango from the Department of Social Development spoke to the elderly regarding the community and reassured them they are there to assist.

“This event was enjoyed by the seniors and they felt very spoilt and loved knowing that communities hold hands together to effect change and embrace the concept of Ubuntu,” stated Christine Crossley, Senior Caregiver at Meals on Wheels.

“I am honoured for the Foundation to be part of this outreach event,” concluded Llewellyn Ryan from the Johannesburg Care foundation.
