“It is heart-warming to see that the senior citizens could be hosted at the Florida Lake Canoe Club, the important role that the various clubs at Florida Lake play does not go unnoticed."

Valentine’s Day means different things to different people, but there are many more ways to show the people you care about how much they mean to you.

For seniors who have lived long and full lives, love is not confined to just a romantic partner.

On Tuesday, February 14 senior citizens from the Protea Glen Older-person Service Centre enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate Valentine’s Day at the Florida Lake Canoe Club facilities.

Despite the weather predictions seeming gloomy, numerous boat rides were necessary to take the large group to the bird island to view nesting birds as more than 50 pensioners were enjoying their special day.

The pensioners were keen to enjoy boat rides but on arrival, the wind and rough waters did not look promising, however, the sun came out and the day cleared up beautifully to ensure the older folks could enjoy their outing.

Ward 70 Councillor Caleb Finn said that he did not know much about what happened on the day but picked it up on social media and felt proud to have these awesome sports clubs in the ward.

They provide hope during these challenging times,” said Finn.
