Crawfordians take on the Midmar Mile

On Saturday, the Crawford swimmers registered as one team to represent Crawford International Ruimsig. This race was friendly and although Crawford swam as a team they were still able to receive individual results.

On Friday, February 10, Crawford International Ruimsig’s learners left for Howick High School to swim the 1,6km Midmar Mile at the Midmar Dam.

Crawford Ruimsig is very thankful to Howick High school which hosted the Crawfordians. The learners, along with the teacher in charge, Natasha Williams, stayed in the Grade 12 dorms and had their own cubicles.

1. Chante Joubert 00:26:00 Overall finishing 20/1255 (Top achievement as finished as Top 20 and fourth out of 267 and 8th woman out of 630 participated)
2. Joshua Whittaker 00:31:00 Overall finished 73/1255
3. Kate Whittaker 00:32:00 Overall finished 98/1255
4. Emma-Kate van Niekerk 00:32:00 Overall finishing 104/1255
5. Philip Obermeyer 00:44:00 Overall finishing 656/1255
6. Jasmine Rose Bailieb 0049:00 Overall finished 858/1255
7. Damian D’Oliviera 00:56:00 Overall finished 1094/1255

Chante had an exceptional swim with outstanding results, Damian swam without goggles and Jasmine still swam even though she was very sick.

Emma-Kate van Niekerk, Kate Whittaker, Joshua Whittaker, Damian D’Oliviera, and teacher Natasha Williams are on their way to compete in the Midmar Mile.

On Sunday the learners once again swam 1.6km and the main goal was to beat their time from the previous day.

Their results are as follows:

2. Joshua Whittaker 00:28:28 Overall finished 210/736
3. Kate Whittaker 00:29:25 Overall finished 217/905
4. Emma-Kate van Niekerk 00:30:19 Overall finishing 254/905
5. Philip Obermeyer 00:44:00 Overall finishing 556/736
6. Damian D’Oliviera 00:46:41 Overall finished 646/736

“I am very proud of each learner. As you can see overall the learners achieved their goals and improved their times from the previous day. They were uncertain and scared of the unknown, but they overcome it and completed the Midmar Mile. This is a big achievement and their parents can be very proud of them. We are looking forward to the next mile to swim and we do hope we can train a lot before next year’s Midmar Mile. I encourage more learners to participate and to take the first leap to the unknown,” concluded Natasha.
