Fun-filled morning for the young at heart

Local student, Lizette Smith was excited to visit the local elderly and treat them to a morning of fun and entertainment.

On Friday, September 9 the Roodepoort Sentrum vir Bejaardes received a special visit from Lizette Smith – a passionate student social worker from the University of Johannesburg.

Although her visit ultimately formed part of her social work internship, she was excited to be organising and hosting a Fun Day for the residents filled with entertainment and laughter.

The day started off with a Fun Walk. Then the elderly enjoyed some well-deserved food and drink, courtesy of the sponsors.

“We handed out some prizes in the form of three trolleys that were gifted to the centre, and gift bags sponsored by Wilropark Pharmacy,” Smith said.

Ending off the morning literally on a high note, residents were invited to the centre hall where they were treated to a stunning performance by their very own Dominee Hennie Lombard.

“The day was very well received by residents and staff. I was thrilled when residents thanked me for the fun morning, and the staff commented that they have not seen the residents having so much fun for the first time in a long while,” she explained.

“I would also like to thank sponsors Kilburn Pick n Pay, Avbob Horison, Kingsley Depot West Rand and Iceburg Hillfox. The event was a huge success and I would like to thank everyone who formed a part of it.”
