Roodekrans father seeks answers after hit-and-run driver critically injures sons

"So whoever it was drove home or to a panel beater with a damaged car."

The anguished father from Roodekrans is looking for answers after his two sons, aged 18 and 19, were critically injured by a hit-and-run driver on Saturday, August 13.

Reports from community members who were first on the scene indicate that the incident happened at around 14:30 opposite 54 Ouklip Road.

In an exclusive interview with the Record the father of the injured boys, Pule Sekhethela said the case was being investigated as a hit-and-run.

“A passer-by paramedic, who helped the boys, said he was eight cars behind the boys when they were hit from behind by a black Ford Ranger. He stopped to help them but the Ford sped away from the scene.

“The boys are both out of hospital now. Any information about the driver or car will be greatly appreciated. While I was looking for a licence plate that might have fallen off at the scene I found a damaged Ford side mirror and fog lights.

“The Roodepoort police are taking care of the investigation and I believe they are doing as much as they can with what they have to work with, and hopefully get some resolution for us,” said Sekhethela.

Roodepoort police Corporate Communication officer Captain Juanita-Anne Yorke confirmed that a case docket had been opened and is currently under investigation.

Police are hoping that someone who had witnessed the accident on that day will call them and give a better description of the car, or any other information about what happened.
