Love and support for special little girl

For the first time in almost four years, Ané's mom had the opportunity to talk about their journey.

Even though doctors call three-year-old Ané Pretorius a living miracle, her daily life is a constant struggle and she needs a handful of medical supplies.

On Saturday, July 30 a community fundraiser for Ané with the purpose to help raise awareness was held at the El-Flora Hervormde Church (El-Flor) Hall in Discovery.

Ané and her mother Nadine Pretorius are part of the church, and women in the church under the leadership of the coordinator Christelle Pretorius and dominee Yolandé de Lange decided to host a fundraiser to help Ané with her much-needed medical supplies.

According to the organisers, the fundraiser had a dual purpose: to help raise awareness and funds to help cover Ané’s medical costs, and to get women together for a fun-filled morning after two years of Covid-19.

Miss Teen South Africa Elani Pienaar as well as medical professionals who treated Ané were all present at the event.

Women from the community got together – 150 tickets were sold for the luncheon – while Miss Teen SA jumped on board to help where she could as soon as she heard about the event.

Dominee De Lange also gave the ladies food for thought with her motivational talk, while Ané was in her element surrounded by everyone she loves and soaking up all the attention.

“This was a fun-filled morning will ballet dancing, singing, eating and laughing. It was amazing to see how everybody was willing to come together, whether they knew Ané or not,” said Dominee De Lange.

For the first time in almost four years, Ané’s mom had the opportunity to talk about their journey.

Her words were raw and filled with emotion as she talked about their challenges, their breakthroughs and their everyday lives. There wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd.

“Saturday’s ladies luncheon was held for Ané in order to raise funds for all her medicine and medical needs. Ané is a very special little girl with some disabilities. As a single mom, working full time and being a full-time nurse to Ané, I am eternally grateful for the support shown on Saturday. Ané has a whole community who cares for her,” said Pretorius.

The medical professionals added to the morning by reminding all present about how seriously ill little Ané actually is, and that her daily medical costs are enormous.

The surrounding community blessed the fundraiser with spa vouchers and hampers, all with the aim of raising money while artist Luna gifted the event with her amazing voice.

Ané was born prematurely in 2018 and was diagnosed with intestinal failure, short bowel syndrome, liver cirrhosis, cerebral palsy and global development delay.

Members of the community who still want to donate to this worthy cause are advised to contact Nadine Pretorius on 071 462 6313.
