KSWR chess players excel at championship

Together with over 800 participants they endured a gruelling long day with the prize-giving ending only at 22:00

The King’s School West Rand competed in the Annual Gauteng Provincial Chess Championships on Saturday, June 18. The event took place at the Gauteng North Wrestling Hall in Menlo Park, Pretoria.

“We had five individual representatives at this prestigious event,” explained Sheila Kennedy, Deputy Principal of KSWR.
Together with over 800 participants they endured a gruelling long day with the prize-giving ending only at 22:00.

They all played five rounds and their results are as follows:

U/11 Girls: Samara Uwakata – won two and a half out of five games

U/11 Girls: Samantha Uwakata – won four out of five games and placed 11th overall in her age group

U/11 Boys: Mzwandile Masuku – won three out of five games

U/15 Boys: Khodi Nwedo – won five out of five games and placed second overall in his age group

U/18 Girls: Mia Beckmann – won three out of five games

“We are tremendously proud of our chess players who qualified to represent our school at this level, and would like to congratulate them on their fantastic results. We commend them for their dedication and commitment considering they are all busy with exams. A special congratulations to Khodi for being selected to represent Gauteng at SA Championship level. We praise God for the opportunities that our children are given to glorify Him by excelling with the gifts He has blessed them with,” concluded Sheila.
