Murder suspect pleads guilty

After months of investigating Constable Ndziwa's efforts have come to fruition.

A suspect who pleaded guilty after being arrested for the alleged murder of his wife, has been sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment.

In the early hours of December 28, 2021 the Honeydew police were called to a murder scene at number 2261 Mauritana Street, Cosmo City. According to the case report the first responders found the body of a woman with multiple injuries. The victim’s husband was present and alleged that people have killed his wife. The husband did not have any injuries.

The crime scene was reported as gruesome with blood everywhere. The police officer on scene questioned the husband and found that he was not truthful and was hiding something. The husband was then arrested for the murder of his wife and it was now up to the detectives at the Honeydew Police Station to prove the case.

The docket was allocated to Constable Ndziwa from the Honeydew Detective Service. During his investigation Ndziwa traced the brother of the deceased and during an interview obtained important and relevant information pertaining to the case, as well as a statement which helped to prove the case. Ndziwa opposed bail and it was denied. He then traced a witness who gave statements relating to the suspect’s personality, behaviour and family relations, including some history of the deceased and her husband, the accused. The case was then placed to go to trial.

Ndziwa prepared the case for trial and ensured that the investigation was up to date and the docket ready for court. After the extensive preparation and investigation the suspect decided to plea guilty to the charges. The plea was accepted as the investigation corroborated with the plea and the suspect was found guilty.

The suspect was sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment and was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Ndziwa, as a young, relatively new detective is commended for his effort, dedication and work ethic. “This is an example to many and it is certain that Constable Ndziwa has the right attitude and approach to ensure further successes,” concluded Captain Balan Muthan, spokesperson for the Honeydew police.
