Suspected courier van robbers flee after shooting at Florida police

Last Thursday police on patrol in the Fleurhof area intercepted a courier vehicle while it was being robbed.

On Thursday, June 30 members of the Florida SAPS were conducting patrols around Fleurhof when they noticed a suspicious-looking vehicle and stopped to investigate.

As they approached the vehicle two thugs opened fire at them and they retaliated.

No injuries were reported and the unknown attackers managed to flee the scene. It was later established that they were robbing the driver of a courier bakkie.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello told the Record, “Police on patrol in Florida intercepted a courier vehicle while it was being robbed in the Fleurhof area on Thursday last week.

“The two police officers were very fortunate to escape uninjured from a shootout with alleged courier van robbers in Fleurhof,” said Sello.

Videos doing the rounds on social media show two gunmen opening the door of the courier vehicle and forcing the driver to move from behind the wheel.

Another video shows a police officer carrying a firearm standing in front of the courier vehicle, and instructing the occupants to get out.

As the suspects and their victim get out of the vehicle, one of the men takes out his firearm and starts firing at the police officer who falls to the ground as he returns fire.

Sello said no one was injured during the shootout and no arrests had yet been made.
