Local beauty aims to uplift fellow women in community

Ruimsig — Local entrepreneur and single mom Joey Khoza aims to spread hope among women who want to change their circumstances for the better.

“I am passionate about uplifting the underprivileged. I survived physical and emotional abuse at the hands of a husband who vowed to protect and love me. I could have stayed and possibly ended up like the women who returned home in a box. I stood up because I matter. And I left,” explained Joey. “I don’t regret my past because it shaped me into becoming the woman I am today. I have learnt to master the art of loving me first before anyone else, and learnt to allow life to give me what I need because what I wanted did not work out for me.”

Joey, who resides in Ruimsig, turned 40 this year and wants to share her story with women in the community, and she is not scared to get her hands dirty.

“During the day I am covered in cement, even when I am dressed in my suit. There’s never a dull moment in my line of work,” she said.

On weekends Joey is a pageant coach, a self-development coach and a mentor.

“I co-own a modelling and self-development academy called ACE Models, a sister company to Mrs South Africa (Pty) Ltd. I was Ms Randfontein, and have just registered an NPO called ‘Thapelo for Boys’ to help develop young boys from a very young age to grow into great men.”

She wants to share the message to all women who are at a low point in their lives that they are worthy, and they can accomplish their goals.

She concluded by saying, “I want to say to them, ‘beautiful lady, you are not alone. You can, and you will!’”
