Police exhibit creates bridge between community and officers

This was a great opportunity not only to inform the community of the various departments, but also to show them that the police officers in the area care about those they protect.

Through education and awareness, positive change is possible.

On Friday, June 10 the West Rand SAPS and Protection Services set up an exhibit at the Zandspruit Value Centre where the public could learn about the many different sectors within the police.

This was a great opportunity not only to inform the community of the various departments, but also to show them that the police officers in the area care about those they protect.

The public had the opportunity to talk to representatives and learn more about the different fields in which the police officers specialise. The representatives were from the Forensic Science Unit, Equestrian Unit, K9 Unit, Traffic Police, the Bomb Squad, Family Protection Unit, Emergency Medical Unit and the Hawks, among other. School children saw the animals that work alongside the police; and they could even meet some of the Equestrian Unit’s horses.

The young people of the area got to see what it is like to be a police officer, and to get the relevant information to consider a career in the SAPS.
