Honeydew SAPS firearms office asking those awaiting collection to check at station if card has been delivered

Honeydew police is sitting with excessive amounts of uncollected firearm licence cards.

Honeydew police are appealing to all firearm licence applicants who applied in the last six months but have not received their licence to please check at the station to see if it has been delivered.

The firearm office is currently sitting with several trays of licence cards that have not yet been collected. The firearm licence cards concerned are for both new applicants as well as renewals. Applicants awaiting their licences should receive text notifications that their cards are ready, but the office admits that some of these text notifications may not have reached the intended recipient.

To collect the firearms licence card, the owner may simply bring their identification document to the station to be verified. New applications may take six weeks to be sent to the provincial office after which a wait of 120 days can be expected before being delivered to the relevant station. Many of the licence cards awaiting collection are for firearms purchased at firearm dealers.

Honeydew police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan, confirmed that the licence cards will not expire or be discarded. That said, the office wishes to give them to their rightful recipients as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the phones at the office do not work so those expecting their firearm licence card are asked to please enquire at the office in person at their convenience.
