Florida Blockwatch announce their new committee for the next 24 months

Six-member committee dedicated to addressing the concerns of residents

Florida Blockwatch (FBW) held their annual general meeting at Hoërskool Florida on May 26.

In addition to the pressing issues within the ward, the election of their new committee was the highlight of the agenda. In the presence of 41 residents and four independent election officials, six committee members were elected.

Eight nominations were thrown into the hat with the six seats, up from five from the previous committee, needing to be filled. A slight reshuffle and the addition of a one position sees Margaret Richardson and Elize Fortune serving in the Community Liaison and Marketing portfolios respectively. Lavina Leher-Garnie will serve as Secretary while new committee members Wim Schonfeldt and Andrew Kerr will be the Treasurer and Vice-chairperson respectively.

The chairperson for the next two years will be the ever-present John Kirsten. The date of their official appointment to their new position was on June 1 with the next FBW community meeting being on June 23 at 19:00 at Hoërskool Florida.
