Miss SA finalist on our doorstep

Shevon is passionate about living each day to its fullest and she never wants to miss out on an opportunity.

From the suburbs of Roodepoort to the national runway, Shevon Pereira, 25, is fast establishing her presence on the beauty pageant scene. On May 14 this local beauty was selected as one of the 30 finalists for the Miss South Africa title.

Shevon is a living example of beauty with brains, and apart from her charming appearance, this model boasts with a BCom Entrepreneurship degree she obtained through the University of Pretoria in 2019.

“Although I am a model, I also work as a business consultant at Discovery. I entered the pageant because the Miss South Africa platform offers local young women an opportunity to elevate what they are passionate about in order to improve the life and circumstances of others,” she explained.

“My purpose in life is aligned with this exact vision as I’m passionate about creating awareness around substance abuse.”

With a burning passion for those often overlooked by society, Shevon is playing her part in the community by supporting a children’s home to which she donates food resources, clothing and another necessities. In the past she has also been involved with the Machi Filotimo Cancer Project, the Woman of Value Africa organisation as well as The Umbrella Foundation.

While she acknowledges the various socioeconomic issues, Shevon loves her country for its deeply rooted unique stories and creative spirit.

“I love how even though we are diverse in our cultures we can all unite, rise up to a challenge and support one another while connecting over a lekker braai,” she said.

Shevon believes that pageantry will never lose its power as it gives women the platform to uplift and empower their community and nation. When asked what qualities she believed a woman should possess to make a notable difference in the world, she replied, “Women already possess the needed qualities as we are nurturing beings by nature, and I believe it’s one of the many gifts from God”.

The passionate beauty would describe herself as an irrepressible, gracious woman. Furthermore she regards herself as a very teachable person who enjoys making people feel heard and valued. She is also unwavering in her beliefs, which has driven her to face her challenges with a courageous spirit.

Shevon is passionate about living each day to its fullest and she never wants to miss out on an opportunity. She believes that taking the first step can be scary because failure is a possibility; however, stepping out in confidence eliminates fear of failure.

“I would define success as the journey and not the destination. I have experienced this through both my dancing and modelling career as both industries are uniquely challenging because success does not happen overnight. However, with tenacity and discipline one can achieve success,” she said.
