'The lesson I learnt from my experience is that hard work pays off.'

The Institute for Quality Collegiate is proud to announce that two of their learners recently excelled in two sought-after competitions.

While Calvin Moyo placed second in the Provincial Mathematics Olympiad 2021 presented by the South Africa Mathematics Foundation, Bandile Ndlovu outwitted the competition to be crowned champion of the recent Johannesburg West Life Sciences Seminar and Quiz Competition for independent schools.

According to Calvin the exciting opportunity to participate in the Math Olympiad was presented to him by his teacher, Mr Ayandokun.

“Firstly, I greatly appreciate and thank the school for choosing me to participate in the Olympiad, as I have been working very hard on my studies. With this opportunity, I got to showcase all my hard work and dedication I put into my studies,” the grade 9 learner said.

“Most of all I felt very proud to receive the award as I made my teachers, my school and my parents extremely proud, which is a great honour for me. The lesson I learnt from my experience is that hard work pays off.”

He would also like to encourage his peers with the words, “With hard work comes great achievements”.

Although matric exams place significant stress on learners, Bandile (Grade 12) proved eager to go above and beyond her school curriculum.

“To say I was happy would be an understatement. I am overjoyed that I was able to represent my school and make them proud. I am grateful to my Life Sciences teachers Mr K Neubekeh, and Miss Lola who also supported me,” Bandile said.

“Winning this competition has given me so much confidence as we are quickly approaching the Grade 12 final exams. Lastly, I would like to thank my school for all their efforts and support, and allowing me to participate in this competition.”

According to the school principal, Miss S Siziba, their vision is to become the leading institution that produces the best results in Mathematics and Science.

“The achievements of the Life Sciences Seminar and Quiz Competition for independent schools and the Provincial Mathematics Olympiad are proof that our learners and educators are dedicated to making our vision become a reality,” she concluded.
