His legal representative, Advocate Ike Khumalo who previously opposed the state’s plea that his client should not be allowed to leave Gauteng, requested that the state relaxed the bail conditions.

Khumalo told the court that his client had been invited to Botswana recently to speak at the funeral of a family member of that country’s former President.

The defence responded to the plea by reminding the court that the matter was serious and that bail conditions were not set lightly, therefore if indeed there were such circumstances then written proof should be provided to the court.

When the court adjourned, Dlamini addressed Operation Dudula supporters and promised them that the movement would not remain silent on matters where the government had failed.

On March 28 Dlamini was granted R1 500 bail in his housebreaking and malicious damage to property case by the same court.

Magistrate Ruby Mathys also ordered him to surrender his passport and to refrain from contacting the complainant.

Although his surname was said to be Dlamini all along, court documents have revealed that it is in fact Mohlaoli.

He is expected back in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, July 27.
