My dream has always been to become a writer; to share the stories and experiences of the people around me.
It is a great honour to be welcomed into the Northsider family, where I aspire to don my “writing” shoes and walk this wonderful journey with the Roodepoort community.
My name is Nicola Jansen van Vuuren, and I am your new community journalist.
I grew up in the Krugersdorp area and graduated from the University of Monash South Africa in 2019. My journalism career started in Tzaneen, a small town in Limpopo. There I was lucky enough to be exposed to a variety of stories and experiences. Writing about going green and off the grid, to squatting in muddy puddles to get the perfect angle for a picture at an outdoor obstacle course were all in day’s work. It is my passion to write about the world around me and make a positive impact on our community.
I’ve always been the person to listen to what the people around me are saying, rather than be the one talking.
I want to hear your story, your truth, and write something that will convey your message to the world. I believe that what we put out in the world matters.
