WATCH: Arthur Matthews receives unusual visitor

This isn't the school's first encounter with the curious primate ...

It is said that everyone has the right to education. However, it is very seldom that another species is interested in taking up the offer.

On Thursday, May 19 at around 12:00, teachers at Arthur Matthews Primary noticed an unusual visitor, curiously exploring the school grounds.

“One of our teachers noticed a wild baboon prancing about on one of our rooftops. He didn’t seem aggressive – just curious. We immediately informed the teachers and advised them to keep the learners indoors,” Foundation Phase HOD, Susanne Strydom explained.

However, this isn’t the school’s first encounter with the curious primate. According to Susanne it is believed to be the same baboon that had been spotted at their school some time last year.

“This is actually his second visit to our school. We know that he had been at Laerskool Jozua Naude Primary too,” she explained.

Although it is unsure where he came from, or where he was going, residents in the area are advised to keep an eye out for this rather interesting ‘learner’. If you see it, please call the SPCA on 011 672 0448 without delay.
