Successful law-enforcement operation in Florida

Learner transport drivers received education about their behaviour, consequences and the importance of their business.

On Wednesday, May 18 a joint operation was held by the Florida Police, Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), Florida Police, Learner Transport Education and Enforcement, Greater Johannesburg Learner Association, Gauteng Emergency Services (EMS) and the Department of Education.

The Disruptive Operation named “Shark” Phase 3 was led by Overall Commander Colonel Tsotetsi and Operational Commander Captain Mabuso from the Florida Police.

According to Colonel Tsotetsi the focus areas on the day were police visibility around Florida Lake, damaged infrastructure, school visits and taxi association taxi rank visits.

A law-enforcement meeting was held at the Roodepoort Civic Centre, and there was a meeting with the Department of Mineral Resources and Petronet concerning illegal mining too.

A stop-and-search resulted in 31 Aarto-related fines, among them five for unlicensed motor vehicles (R5 000), ten for unlicensed vehicles (R10 000), seven for number plates (R3 500), two PrDPs (R2 500), one driver’s licence (R1 250), and one discontinue notice, totalling R22 250 worth of traffic fines.

Six learners from a secondary school were found at a Roodepoort park during school hours and were taken back to their school, while six packets of dagga and a knife were confiscated.
