The club came into existence in 1982 when seven members had a shared vision to develop the Birmingham Roller pigeon, improve the quality of the pigeon and its performance, and to hold competitions to further the interest in the hobby.

Today, 40 years later, the WBR has gone from strength to strength with members excelling both locally, nationally and internationally with their quality birds. Some birds were imported to improve the local pool of genetics.

According to Otto Pretorius from the club, the Birmingham Roller pigeon is a performance bird and is often referred to as the acrobats of the sky with their breathtaking rolling or somersaulting. Competitions are judged by the quality and depth of the roll.
