On Tuesday, May 17 the Roodepoort Police Crime Prevention Unit together with their counterparts from Crime Intelligence held a joint operation during which they reacted on tip-off information received from the community of Roodepoort.

According to a media statement from the Roodepoort Police station commander Brigadier Irene Sekwakwa, the team was led to an address in Roodepoort where people were believed to be dealing in various illegal dagga (cannabis) products.

The members entered and searched the property, and found a substantial amount of various dagga-infused products, a large amount of cash, and some dagga plants in their various stages of development.

Two male suspects aged between 17 and 45 were identified and placed under arrest for dealing in and manufacturing Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THC) and both will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon.

Brigadier Sekwakwa commended members for following up swiftly, which led to the suspects’ arrest.

“We commend the members of the community for coming forward with this information as this proves that there is cooperation between the community that we serve and our station. Together we can and will fight crime and such criminal elements.
