Teaching stars to shine brightly

This NPO was born out of Nhlanhla's vision of improving the quality of work and results of underprivileged high school learners.

Every once in a while a star is born. These stars usually have the potential to light up a universe, but before they can do that, they have to learn to shine.

Passionate about providing teens with the tools and assistance they need to reach their full potential, founder Nhlanhla Rayiya established Bright Stars Tutoring Services in 2018. This NPO was born out of Nhlanhla’s vision of improving the quality of work and results of underprivileged high school learners.

“We ultimately want these learners to be self-empowered. Our aim is to enable them to unlock their potential and excel in their academics, allowing them access to careers and universities,” he explained.

While Nhlanhla and his team offer assistance in all subjects from Grade 7 up until matric, he stressed the fact that certain subjects such as Maths, Science and Accounting require more time and practice than other subjects in the school syllabus.

The tutoring team aims to tackle the roots of the challenge by developing the learner’s thought process in these subjects from as early as possible. They do this by offering extra lessons after school, weekends and school holidays.

“Our team comprises of high-spirited individuals who have studied the subjects of interest at post-matric level. This includes engineering and graduates involved in medical professions of learner support programs. We also work with retired teachers, past examiners and subject advisors to facilitate and effective educator support programme,” Nhlanhla explained.

Along with its passion for education, the NPO also offers assistance in the form of food parcels, school uniforms, clothes and career guidance for underprivileged learners. With sincere assistance and quality education Bright Stars hope to redirect the paths of all stars wanting a bright future for themselves.

While the organisation was established in Soweto, Nhlanhla is pleased to announce that they have branched into the Florida area, and the NPO is now assisting learners in the area from a centre located at Royal College.

“Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today. We would like to invite all those interested to come and see what we are about,” he concluded.
