#JusticeForTshego: Shoba to be sentenced in July

The family was also not happy with the fact that the pre-sentencing report was still not ready despite the fact that conviction happened in March.

Ntuthuko Shoba is yet to find out how much time he will spend behind bars. The convicted killer was due for sentencing on Tuesday, May 10 at the South Gauteng High Court but the matter was postponed to July 28.

The reason for the postponement was that the pre-sentencing report from the defence team was not ready.

“This is the first postponement request after the conviction stage, so we don’t think that it is unreasonable. However, as the NPA, we want to see this matter being brought finality hence we are ready to proceed with aggravation of sentence,” said Phindi Mjondongwana, the spokesperson for the NPA. She added that the accused must be given a fair chance to prepare his evidence for mitigation.

The almost two months delay in finalising this matter is further delaying the family of Tshegofatso in their quest to finding closure.

The family was also not happy with the fact that the pre-sentencing report was still not ready despite the fact that conviction happened in March.

“I would have loved to know the reason why the pre-sentencing report could not be concluded but in the interest of fairness we just have to allow the process unfold,” said Tumisang Katake, the family spokesperson.

Shoba was found guilty of masterminding the murder of Tshegofatso Pule in June 2020. The body of the eight month pregnant Tshegofatso was found hanging from a tree in Durban Deep.

Shoba’s triggerman, Muzikayise Malephane, who is already serving a 20 year sentence, turned state witness and testified against him.
