Honeydew Police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan confirmedthat a case of rape that happened in Cosmo City was also opened at the station during the weekend.

It is alleged that on Sunday, April 10 at about 21:30 the complainant was at her friend’s place when they decided to go to Zandspruit.

“After refusing to go to Zandspruit, the complainant’s friends left her, and the accused offered to accompany the victim to Dominica Street in Cosmo City.  Upon arrival the accused raped the victim and threatened to kill her if she told anyone about what happened,” said Muthan.

The suspect’s firearm was booked at the Honeydew Police Station as well as the one cartridge that was found in his possession.

In another rape incident at a property in Radiokop a week earlier, on Tuesday, April 5 in which a victim was raped by her boyfriend, Muthan confirmed that an arrest was made and the suspect appeared in court.

The victim who works at a restaurant was picked up by her boyfriend from her workplace and taken to his place in Radiokop.

The victim allegedly reminded the suspect that although they were in a relationship, she was not ready to sleep with him yet.

After sitting on the couch and drinking wine, the two went to sleep in separate rooms, but the suspect entered the victim’s room and forced himself on her.

“You have the right to say no; no one has the right to force you into sexual activity, no matter what your relationship with this person is.  This means no one can force you to have sex, or touch you in a sexual way without your consent, or force you to perform sexual activity you find unpleasant or humiliating. Remember – a sexual assault is not your fault,” said Muthan.
